Tokyo Tamago

One of my favorite treats to bring home from Tokyo is the Tokyo Tamago or Goma Tamago. Tamago is egg and Goma is sesame. This confection consists of an inner sanctum of black sesame paste. Then, its bathed in a covering of thin cake and surrounded by a gossamer layer of icing. Each egg is then individually wrapped then boxed for your consumption. Its a great accompaniment to some hot green tea. Come to think of it, this resembles the cross-section of the planet Earth with its thin mantle and crust and massive core.
While travelling with friends, this little item tickled her fancy and in turn tikcled my fancy after partaking of one. Brought some back initially for friends and they enjoyed it as much as we did.

They come in a box of 8, 12, or 18. I usually find myself bringing home at least 3 of the large boxes. Sold at kiosks in most of the major train stations including Tokyo Station. Available at some of the souvenir shops in Narita's departure terminal, its a convenient grab and go. I have yet to find them in the stattes so their are just a yearly delight for friends and family
