Japan 2011-Sapporo Snow Festival Recon

After lunchm decided to see what was going on with the snow sculptures along Odori. To get there, we took the scenic route via the street car. The beginning and end of the line is only 3 blocks apart. But it takes the long way around.
This is one of the structures that are still a work in progress. Its hard to tell what it will become in the next few days

A hint lies in the board next to each display as it shows the final design as well as pics of it as it was coming along

There are no ice sculoture in Susukino yet, but there are some in the area near the TV tower. This appears to be 2 dinosaurs, T Rex and Steg. Possibly they are battling over tosee who gets to stamp on the hairy apes?

A large crane was used to move the blocks of ice into place so they can arved into desired shapes. Considering the height of the crane and the neight of the sculpture, it seems a bit of overkill
