Been on a recent bender to get on some roller coasters to recapture the thrills I experienced on these types of rides in my younger days. Not long ago, I went to the Vallejo chapter of Six Flags, Discovery Kingdom(DK). Six Flags has three levels of season passes with varying levels of access, benefits and prices. Thrillseeker gives 12 months access to one park and parking. Extreme lets you any Six Flags park with parking in addition to discounts at retail and eateries. Ultimate gets much of Extreme plus premium parking and full access with 10 meal vouchers. The Extreme pass at Discovery Kingdom costs the same as the Thrillseeker at Magic Mountain(MM).
The count, according to Six Flags, is 20 coasters at MM. Sure they may have alot but they also include the pint sized rides and a few coasters that go back several years well beyond the beginning of the coaster wars. In spite of that, they do have alot of fun coasters and worth the visit.
One thing I noticed about the 2 parks, less crowds. During the height of summer, the parks were packed and the lines were excrutiatingly long.
Like DK the DC themed area has a number of themed rides following the likes of DC superheroes and villians
The first attraction I prioritized had to be the new one for 2022:Wonder Woman-Flight of courage. A single file open air car with a minimal number of inversions
When you reach the end of the ride, high five all those waiting to get in line
The Wonder Woman-Lasso of Truth at DK is also known as Crazantiy at MM. Similarly a swinging pendulum ride with rotating seats
In about the same area is Batman The Ride, Duh! Did they really need to add "The Ride"? Like you would have mistaken this for something else? This totally different from DK. Before Wonder Woman was erected, there was a similar ride named after The Joker. This is a suspended floorless coaster that will whip you into turns, corkscrews and loops
One of my favorite type of rides fall into the category of freefall. Pure simplicity: go up, get released, and drop down to the base. This particular tower is 415 feet high. Most likely the tallest I have ridden
Lex Luthor-Drop of Doom shares the structure with another ride, Superman-Escape From Krypton. You get shot out of the station house from 0-100 mph in seconds then go completely vertical over 200 feet before momentum slows down and kinetic is redirected in the opposite direction. When it first opened, a figure of Superman greeted you at the apex. Hes no longer there. They have also turned the cars around. Previously sped forward and dropped back. Now you start backward then face down during the drop
What would this area be without the iconic Hall of Justice! Here in lies a shoot'em up dark ride. A great place to get out from the hot sun into a darkened, air conditioned, sit down ride
One of the few rides using a villian's monicker: The Riddler's Revenge. A "stand-up" coaster
For alternate kinds of fun, the midway has carnival games, arcade and crane games to win prizes. Different sized plushies, mini basketballs, and other rewards for meeting the set goals
A tram is available to the lazy, incapacitated, or those unable to climb the "magic mountain". Wait times are short as a car comes down while one goes up.
The back of the park is quite empty for many reasons. This wooden coaster has been closed for a while and may be replaced soon
Alot of the rides are situated more towards the front of the park. People flow may not make it back into this area until later in the day if at all. In the background is the mountain in Magic Mountain. The observation tower is closed. Some of the attractions in this area are the flume ride, Ninja(suspended car coaster), West Coast Racers (racing steel coaster), and Tatsu
Around the top of the mountain, you can see the density of coasters within the boundaries. This picture alone has 4 rides visible
As mentioned, the dragon themed flying roller coaster, Tatsu
Once situated, the seats are angled before the ride begins
Night falls but not many lights come up at all. If this were during the weekend, they may be activities schedule like live bands
The temps are nice and cool at this time of day. 90+ degrees throughout most of the day with some humidity until sunset. A nice cool walk around the park would be ideal if you havent already tired yourself out.
Time to get back to the room, wash up, and get some sleep
