Pacifica is a coastal town south of San Francisco. I lived for a time no too far from its shores to the north. Its not know for much because it is overshadowed by the big city and literally is in the shadow of Daly City.
Pacific-a
The municipal pier brings back memories of fishing with family when young and bike rides during my residency.
Bait and tackle as well as a cafe prior to the pier itself
This portion at the end has seen better days. It has been fenced off for your safety
Fishermen and surfers enjoy what there is in spite of the grayness of the day
The weather is nowhere near as bright and sunny as the beach towns of southern California. But you have to admire how some have laid out their front yards to catch the best of days
Once a year, starting in 1986, Pacifica began to celebrate that most famous of San Francisco traits, the fog. Along Palmetto Ave, the event is fairly large street fair
I had attended many years ago. It was postponed in 2021 because of you know what. On Saturday, there was a parade. Today there was a fun run with trophies before the festivities officially began
There are the usual booths of arts & crafts, charitable organizations, public information, etc.
Entertainment options range from facepainting and bouncy castles for the kids to live music and edibles/imbibables for the much older legal kids
And, we cannot forget about the food that is on offer at events like this.
Its been a while since Ive been to a street fair but the usual suspects seemed to be in attendance.
Garlic fries seem to be a staple with various locations having them on offer. Gilroy, after all is not too far from here. Some have put their own twist on it
Roasted sweet corn with its burned husk protecting the ever so enjoyable kernels of corn
Again the garlic fries which I will partake of but at a different stand. Sandwiches and sausages were offered in alot of places but the burger joints were fewer and far between
At the north end of Palmetto, a concentrated group of food vendors much like that found at the south end. Throughout you can find places to satisfy your sweet tooth
Kettle corn and boba teas of different kinds found at the southern end
Oysters!! Grilling over a hot grill dressed melted butter
This place went through the trouble of cooking up everything they serve and laying it out on a table. They had the most extensive menu of sandwiches, seafood, and fries. Including lobster in rolls, "not-chos", and garlic fries
Another tent had a number of chocolate/fudge items
The decadent covered apples are head turners
A few more offerings off to the side
This is where I decided to have my first bite. They offered a number of crab and seafood items at the largest vendor on the north side
The menu of items on offer. Crab garlic fries drew my attention and thats what I ordered in the regular size
This will fill up your daily allowance for garlic. For some, a weeks worth. The garlic cream sauce is rich and heavy. The snow crab on top is overwhelmed by the garlic and I hardly noticed its presence.
Menus from some of the stalls people were lining up for. I also had an order of barbecue oysters.
I forgot to take a picture of what I ate but it is included in the video. A spritz of lemon to cut through the melted butter livened up the dish.
To cap off the day, I had the Fog Cutter cocktail
A mix of orange/lemon juice with rum, gin, brandy, etc. Here its made with rocker Sammy Hagar's rum. He also has a line of tequilea, Cabo Wabo. It wasnt very strong but it was very tastey, I liked it.
