Six Flags Discovery Kingdom started life as Marine World Africa/USA in Redwood City. Its main attractions were the sea mammal shows, water skiing show, and zoological exhibits. The land now lays claim to Oracle, Electronic Arts, and formerly Sega of America. The park was moved to Vallejo then bought out by the Six Flags corporation. Today its a theme park like most but it still keeps some of its heritage.
The walk from the parking lot is a bit of a walk but shuttle services to the entrance run on a regular schedule. As you get to the entrance, you see alot of the older rides like the venerable Meduesa
The parking used to be closer to the entrance but was moved long ago south of the park.
After getting through the main entrance, you are presented several paths to choose from
Today we make a left to an area with a cluster of thrill rides. Along the way, a summertime favorite water ride. Be it in the boat or standing on the bridge, the splash refreshes all
A number of DC hero based rides are gathered at the DC Universe. Five rides but one constantly closed and today was no exception
The Flash is consistently closed for repairs. The Joker coaster next door laughs in the face of The Flash ride because its open today
Because its the closest to a traditional roller coaster, I decided to jump on this first. Its a hybrid of metal and wood. Some like wood because of its jarring nature. I like steel because of the smooth ride and tall drops. The first drop is not very high and the second smaller but are sufficient. You are hurtled violently into alot of barrell rolls and inversions. The woodies probably like that
Across the way is Superman coaster. A newer style of coaster with a much smaller footprint compared to more traditional coaster.
You think the ride starts when you get shot out of the boarding area. The car goes up the track, slows down, and rolls back through the station house. The momentum of that starts to fade as you proceed forward once again and rocketed over the apex. As you hit the highest point, the rails twist going up and throughout the rest of the ride.
The cars twist through a loop before shooting past the loading platform and coming to a stop backwards
The Wonder Woman ride is a rotating pendulum. As it swings, the seats rotate so you feel the forces of speed and gravity at different angles. The ride can speed up to 70 mph while your feet are dangling below
The ring goes slightly past 90 degrees on either side at the height of the ride. There was a good sensation of going from negative to positive and back to negative G forces. The feeling of speed is exhilirating as your seat is open to the elements.
The only thing that I was wary about was the rotating action. I avoid spinning rides like teacups but have no issues with merry go rounds. I did feel a bit queasy on the ride. It was mild but absolutely present. How do you settle your stomach? I went to get a cheeseburger and fries with a bottle of water for $20
The last ride of the day, after lunch was Batman. I discovered that I had not taken alot of pictures of the ride but it is included in the video. The coaster is fairly small and spins your seat as it weaves back and forth along its track. The spinning is pretty forceful. You need to keep your head pinned to the headrest to avoid too much movement in the neck
I called it a day after 4 hours in the park. When leaving DC Universe, the DC villians are on the opposite side of the entry arch. The count was 4 rides in 4 hours. It was a good day overall. The lines didnt feel overly long and the park was not overly crowded in DC Universe. As I made my way to the exit, There were more people and still several hours left in the day
You got this far. To reward you, heres the video I mentioned
