Travelogue Japan Day 1 Bus Tour to Shizuoka

Early start to the first day after arriving around midnight to my hotel.  I woke up before my 7am alarm and headed downstairs after it went off.  Breakfast in the lobby.  The usual affair for this establishment.  I was glad to see the eggs less runny.  Makes it easier to pick up with the chopsticks.  Gray and the forcast for rain bore fruit shortly here after

My memory failed me at this moment but i remembered later that I had tried McD's breakfast sausage.  Having it right after the hotel breakfast made it clear that the two sausages that I had just had were very similar.  It was othing like a hot dog weinerone might expect to see back home

Ive gotten used to the weather being like this when I travel at this time of year

We pass fmiliar landmarks on the way to the Shuto Expressway

From Ueno, we went past Akihabara, Ginza, and Shibuya to name a few places

Our first stop was this wasabi mill. This is one of the agricultural products that they are proud of

Examples of how wasabi grows

He is washing then grinding the  roots.  A curtained off area is set up to give the full impact of the noxious aroma

After being washed and having the smller roots trimmed, these are ready to be processed

In the boiling cauldron of water, sliced wasabi are being cleaned.  Im assuming their being cleaned

Gift/souvenir shops will be found at every single stop we mke.  In some places it seems like they herd us through the store just for the sake of having us in there.  Anyway, products made from and with wasabi in all shapes and forms are offered for retail sale.  Of course, you would want to buy fresh plants

Ive seen this before but dont know what it is.  Neither have I tasted it, but Im sure somebody ca inform us

They wee serving wasabi flavored soft serve as well as selling these cookies with a mix of chocolate and wasabi.  Dont worry, Im not bringing any back to inflict upon you

Its coming on the luncheon hour and we stop here for a 60 minute buffet lunch.  The restaurant inside is fairly large and handles many tour busses

Local produce is being sold as you step into the establishment.  The prices for the mikan seem good, right?  They did seem kind of small

Grab a tray and utensils.  Several stations to choose from.  Self-serve drinks, salads and pickles, soups and rice for starters.  Chinese food and a meat station provided the entrees and a dessert station to finish off the meal

Plese refer to the last pic before mogin on.  They are a bit out of order and difficult to put them in the right place.  So there was pork and onion rings.  As you can tell, there was beef.  It was much more tender than I had expected and enjoyed it.  Would have gone back for more but neeed to save space for the berries to come.  Some of the other things include yaksioba, fried rice, oden, sweet and sour pork??, and mac and cheese

There was not a selection of fruit but a choice of some baked goods and other sweetness like bread pudding, mini cakes, almond jello, and a strawberry chocolate fountain.

I partially dippes a marshmallow and a whipped cream puff.  They also had strawberry and vanilla flavored soft serve.  The only fruit available was the strawberry sauce.  Such a shame no fresh strawberries or mikan

There was a suspended cable car ropeway to a nearby peak.  However, the weather put a kibosh on the chance ofseeing any view.  What else can we do with our time?  Why not shop at the gift store!!!

Sure they can make a wasabi beverage.  Sure they can make a strawberry beverage.  Ichigo is japapnese for strawberry.  Why couldnt they combine the two to make a refreshing new flavor, wasabi-chigo
