Did a quick trip to Las Vegas. Theres not going to be alot of gambling or sex. There will be alot of pinball and lobster. What? Did the title give it away? Stayed at the Hilton at Resorts World. Theres three hotels from the Hilton chain all in one place: Hilton, Crockfords, and Conrad
View from the room looking at the cluster of hotels/casinos. The saucer shaped roof is atop the Fashion Show mall. In hindsight, I should have stayed closer to the Strip. Due to construction for the F1 race in a few months, traffic was snarled in the evening
Passing the egg shaped chairs at Sun's Out Buns Out restaurant at Resorts World
Went to experience Fremont Street for the first time since they enclosed the street and pedestrianized it
I havent had dinner yet and had previously to stop by here at one end of Fremont
I have never had a White Castle slider from one of its branches. Only from the freezer section from the supermarket. Simple meat, bun, and onion. I can see how people like it. Grilling the onions with the patty gives it a nice flavor
Time to walk off the dinner down the street and see what there is. This section is covered with a long led screen with changing images
You can opt for the ziplines to whiz by above everyone's heads. Just make sure you don't "whiz" on people's heads
The energy is alive with the loud upbeat music, flashing neon lights, dyanmic visuals above, and the vibe coming off those who are here with me
Some of the venerable casinos from the early days of Vegas that are still around downtown
People say the games are friendlier here than at the obscene casinos on the strip
Another view later that night. There's an electronic LED billboard on this side of the building. Its contructed so the lights shine outward and dont really notice bleed into my room with curtains open
In contrast, the sun is rising from the east. Some are waking up while some never went to sleep. Im a little of both, woke up early while not getting much sleep
On my way to get dinner at The Palms at lunch time. More on that later. Passing by the Linq but will loop around later tonight.
The AYCE restaurant at the Palms offers a lobster buffet on Wednesdays. This is a highly popular offering and can be left out. Buying a ticket to the game starts an hour after the lunch services is over
The wait is about an hour after that and they begin to sell the seats. Then another hour later you start to line up for entry. Below is one of two lobster stations at the buffet
In addition to the whole lobster and lobster tail, they offer plenty of the usual fare at dinner. A tastey Thai curry if you couldnt figure out the blob
Surf and turf combination on my second go around. A slice of beef and 2 kinds of shrimp to accompany the main attraction
I had a revelation after getting my third plate. Some sausage, sushi and mashed potato tagged along with another slice of beef. I was pretty much enjoying everything. The foods were of good quality and prepared well
Why go through the trouble of ripping the lobster in half when I dont really partake of the innards in the head and find the claws and legs tedious? Streamlined the progress and just got the tail with some other accomanpaniments. Salad and corn, little healthy?
Final plate and the curry makes a return with some seaweed salad. Linner or dunch or is it lunner and dinch? Anyway my late lunch was done and its time for the pinball section of the trip
If you've seen the post on the Pacific Pinball Museum, this is to follow up on that. The Pinball Hall of Fame is on the boulevard on the west side of the airport property. Hence the plane
The Welcome to Las Vegas sign is also just outside and it draws a crowd
Its nice how they make this place easy to find
Heres a sampling of a few of the machines that I played. See link to video to see gameplay
Ah yes, the age old bane of the thumb in the picture. In this case, it may be my index finger
I didnt notice til later that those red batons you see in the pictures are one of the legs from the tripod I was using
While I was enjoying myself for the last few hours, the sun had started to set and the lights came out.
The sign set against dusk sky
I have had so many lobsters so late in the day, Im not even hungry for dinner tonight.
Went back to the Linq Promenade to check it out and see whats there. In the backdrop is The High Roller ferris wheel
A massive wheel much like the London Eye. Riders take a turn at the wheel to get views high above.
The Promenade has the usual REDS(retail, entertainment, dining and souvenirs/shopping)
