Market St is the main corridor in the downtown area. It runs from the Embarcadero in the northeast down to Castro St at its southwestern terminus. Skyscrapers housing major corporate headquarters and offices line the boulevard amidst restaurants and retail. At Kearny St, people gather at Carlottas Fountain every April to commemorate the Earthquake of 1906.
