Grass Valley, CA

Grass Valley is located between the state capital of Sacramento and Reno, NV.  It is just off Interstate 80 and along Highway 49 which winds through Gold Country

I find myself in Grass Valley on this mostly sunny Saturday in late June.  The chamber of commerce website spoke about is historic downtown area and the revitalized Mill St.  I drove into downtown from the east on Main St.

Parking on West Main near Mill St was pretty easy and the parking limit of 3 hours accommodating.

There were parking lots around the area providing ample parking.

Mill is blocked off to traffic, making it an ideal pedestrian corridor for shops, restaurants, and movie theater.

I had passed by this city with little thought during many ski trips in the winter and casino runs during the summer

Before perusing the thoroughfare, I decided to browse Main St a bit.  Standing proud at the intersection is a 4 sided clock

I didnt walk too far before crossing the street and heading back to Mill

I could imagine the Holbrooke Hotel during the Gold Rush era of the mid 1800's.  Easier to imagine if you replace the asphalted lanes with dusty narrow roads

Not much info about the hotel on the placque but did talk about the bar in the hotel.  Fire, rebuilding, historic status, etc.

The was mostly sunny but very cloudy around this time.  A little later in the day, there was some scattered drizzle on the drive back.  In the background, the forest of trees that lead up the hills into the Sierra Nevada range

A common sight on city streets due to the pandemic are parklets for restaurant patrons to dine al fresco as well as distancing between patrons

No plans to come back for the market but nice to know its available Thursday nights

A bank converted into a shop with mutiple small busineses from handicrafts to bakery/cafe.  Nevada County is the region Grass Valley resides in.

An ice cream/sweet shop as well as a game/toy store were spotted in additon to many independent clothing boutiques

The Del Oro movie theater showing the lastest movies.  The weeks old Top Gun Maverick and the newly released Lightyear

A quaint pasty shop across the street.  Maybe an ideal place to pick up a snack before the screening

This concludes a short stroll along Main St and through Mill St
